Breaking Earth’s Bond 2013
Stainless steel
25’h x 24’w x 25’d
Breaking Earth’s Bond is installed at the gateway to the Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, where NASA designed, fabricated and tested the Apollo and Saturn rockets. The work’s narrative traces the trail humans have taken to escaping our earth’s gravitational pull.  The work is made of up three components. Trajectory traces the path rockets take as they soar into the sky. Bridge is a symbol of the thousands of scientists and engineers who have used their knowledge to bridge the gap between humanity’s past efforts to achieve this goal and the future of space exploration. The ground is scattered with human-sized molecules inspired by the original jet fuel, Hydrazine. The variation in the color of the stainless steel comes from a patina process.
